In Reply to: Taiwan Beauties breeding questions posted by John H. on July 19, 2000 at 10:13:28:
: I've got a 6 year old female Taiwan and a 2 year old male. Both are captive born and raised. I've had the female for about 5.5 years and she's a great snake. She never bites, she eats like a hog, and she's got great color. I just got the male a few months ago and, while he was really nervous and nippy at first, he has settled down nicely. My questions are: 1) Should I try to breed them this next season?, 2)What temps. and how long should I overwinter them?, 3)Does it matter who I introduce into which cage (male into female's or vice versa). This will be my first attempt at breeding anything though I do have the book "Rat Snakes: A Hobbyist's Guide To Elaphe And Kin" by Satszko and Walls and it has been very useful. I wanted to get as much info as possible before I attempt to breed them. Any info will be greatly appreciated!
Hello
I wouldnt think there would be a problem with breeding next year, the most important thing is the extra size and age on your female, this will be much better in the long run for production and productive longevity. I give most of my Beauty snakes daytime highs and nighttime lows prior to breeding.Lows of around 65 at night to normal highs, I for one am not comfortable with hibernating Beauties.I do this for approx 4-6weeks and after that time, Both sexes are kept together, seperated during feeding until eggs are noticed in the female.
Hope this helps
Works for me
Thanks Rob
