The stencil idea is really easy. You paint the entire interior with a light green color. the color of the leaves. then you go outside and find a lot of leaves, ferns. vines.etc... lay the cage with the side you are painting on the floor and arrange the leaves on it. Then using spray paint in a nice Hunter green color 'dust' the paint over the whole thing from a distance. peek under the leaves to see when you have it heavy enough for your tastes. try this technique on something else first to see how it works before you do the cage.
: I haven't tried this myself, but seen it done. Paint the interior with several coats of that interior washable non-toxic paint designed for human nurseries. You can get it in almost any color. I've seen a really cool effect for a jungle-type feel where a dark greenish paint was used as a base, then various leaf patterns in several lighter shades of green were stenciled/leaf-printed over it. makes for a dark tank though!
