If he is your only snake I would get a 55 gal aquarium for him.

snakes tend start calming down after they get a little size. The bigger they are the smaller you seem and less threat. But EVERY snake is different. I would say that on average 3'+ snakes are much calmer than smaller ones. (based on personal experience)
