: I should have described the spring house. 8 by 8 block building with a tin roof and wood ceiling. I think they like the warm temps in the roof, and the cool temps inside. They can move a little ways and be whatever temp they want. They can get inside the block walls, too. I can't seal the cracks up, the wasps in the roof will get me. I just want to keep the snakes out for about two hours or so, with no toxins. I was hoping a student of snake knowledge could tell me how to deter them for a while. Would a radio, set up on the roof, scare them out for a while?

Hi Farmer,
Snakes are not believed to have very good hearing (possibly none)they can feel ground vibrations.It sounds like you have black rat snakes they are not dangerous but will bite in defense.If you are not real afraid of them I sugest you put on a thick jacket and gloves. You can pick them up and move them out of the spring house.You can take them away or store them in a pillow case until you are finished cleaning and put them back.Buddy.
