In Reply to: "Siberian" rat snake? posted by Trust on May 25, 2000 at 10:38:14:
: I was at the library yesterday and was looking through a book on rat snakes. They had a picture of one they referred to as a siberian rat snake. Sort of looked like a tiger (chicken) rat snake, but the scientific name was different. Anyone ever heard of this species? Sorry, I don't remember the scientific name.
Hey, the snake you saw was a "Elaphe schrencki schrencki" they are from far eastern Russia. Sometime reffered to as the Siberian Rat snake, but more so the Russian Rat Snake.
You can find out some basic info on them at our site "Rat Snakes of the Genus Elaphe" here on Kingsnake.com, in the feature pages.
Hope this is helpful,
Rex
