Schulz (1996), in his monograph on the genus, made mention of some intergrades. This species is extremely variable. It is even variable within a subspecies. The Chinese beauty, E. t. taeniura, which I work with comes in several color phases, pattern variations, and sizes. It's a little like the corn snake in its variability.

Would someone have a good picture of a Yunnan Beauty Snake for comparison? While these two snakes may indeed be an intergrade, they are brightly colored and show high contrast between the orange/yellow and black.
