: I would have to say, depending on which part of Hunan it came from, it could be a natural intergrade between E. t. yunnanensis, mocquardi, and/or taeniura. In other words, it's kind of a mutt. Schulz (1996), in his monograph on the genus, made mention of some intergrades. This species is extremely variable. It is even variable within a subspecies. The Chinese beauty, E. t. taeniura, which I work with comes in several color phases, pattern variations, and sizes. It's a little like the corn snake in its variability.

: In my opinion, we should try to breed true to the subspecies that we claim to be working with. If I were you I'd have a little dilemma. Sorry.

Maybe it was misunderstood and they are Yunnans
and not Hunnan's??
Just a guess, like you said terry, there is way
too much mutting up in the taeniura.
