If the ratsnake has mites, you might have more of a problem than you bargained for. Don't even put it in the same room with your other snakes if you can help it. If it were me, I'd use a piece of No-Pest to kill the mites, ASAP. E-mail me and I'll explain how to do it. In the meantime, try soaking the snake in warm water. If it has mites, some should fall off and drown. If there are a lot then a whole bunch of little flecks will be floating on the water. Yep, they float, and they do the backstroke pretty well too for a little while. Then they drown. This will only confirm your suspicions. You will still need to deparasitise. Good luck.
