10 gal! I'd be angry too! If you plan to keep this critter you need something approching the length of the snake.She can't bite through a garden glove,rats have very short teeth. I wouldn't try to pin her head down, you'r trying to build trust here and she'll see that as a threat. approach her with the back side of a gloved hand,she'll rattle her tail and hiss and maybe strike but she'll just hit and pull back most likely. Just touch her with the back of your hand and slowly work your way into a light grip around her body and gently lift her supporting as much of her body as you can.Do keep her away from your face, hard to hide a bite there. I just caught a black rat myself last week(about my10th I quess) and he's gentle as a kitten now, though he does still rattle the tail at me and I can pick him up bare handed now, he bit the devil out me at capture. Iapproach him with the back of a closed hand ,let him get a good smell and just pick him up.It takes a little time and care thats all.
