: : I'm not Mr. Cherry but when you mentioned Houston zoo I had to jump in. Houston zoo still has the original leucistic TX rat
: Hello,
: According to Dr. H.B. Bechtel, the original WC leucistic texas rat that was loaned to him by the Houston Zoo died in 1978. At least that is what he states in his book on reptile color variants on pages 72-73. So which is the truth, is the original male alive or dead?????
: Thanks,
: dg
When I went to Dr Bechtels he had a Leucistic Texas rat that I photographed but I don't recall if it was the original or not. I don't even remember when I went there but it was in the 80's. On the subject of Texas Rats he had this great looking scaleless Texas Rat that I photographed. See Photo. He proved it was a recessive gene. I have never seen these for sale by anyone. I don't know if Dr. Bechtel ever released any of these to anyone? Does anyone else know?? DEAN
