Hey Terry,

By upper edge I meant the upper edge of their elevational distribution which here in Az. seems to be 3000 to around 5600 feet.Their climbing tendencies are controversial.Although I do know people who have seen them occasionally climb most observations seem to be on the ground.I've spent a lot of time studying vine snakes in the trees but have never seen a triaspis in a tree. This was brought up on the field collecting forum last year, myself and others thought they were primarily terrestial except for occasional nest raiding forays. However Fred Wilson told us that a transmittered individual spent considerable time in the trees and Jerry feldner had seen several in the trees. This could also vary to some degree from one mountain to another as I have noticed some possible variation in some other habits(ie:although they are definately nocturnal in the Santa Ritas, Baboquivari,Pajarito and Patagonia ranges I have not heard of any nocturnal activity in the Chiricahuas). Most tree climbing reports seem to be from the Chiricahuas.

My cousin and I have benn working on establishing local specific CB colonies. This can be difficult. We take our snakes to the vet right after capture for fecal exams and treatment if needed.WC have always fed well for us but they tend to be very nervous and stressfull and are very prone to bacterial infections and respitory infections especially if hibernated too cold. Our CB offspring seem to fare much better and are generally less nervous.

I was born and spent most of my life in Tucson, I now live in Flagstaff and only get down that way once or twice a year.Never know, we could run into each other sometime, I'm always willing to share basic info and hear reports.Talk to ya later

Rich
