Where I went in the Santa Ritas, there were grasses, a few occotillo, sotol, etc, but not much mesquite. Instead there were quite a few oaks. I thought they looked great for a climbing ratsnake, but now I guess green rats don't climb too much. Was I up too high for triaspis, about 4200 to 6000 feet? By "upper edge", did you mean the upper desert life zone? This is about 3,000 to 4500 feet, I think.
