In Reply to: Help! Rat Snake still not eating posted by James on April 06, 2000 at 07:55:42:
Your animals may have reached their sexual maturity. males are usually busy looking for mates around this time of year and may go off feed untill the breeding season is over. some of my male snakes do this but there always some exception.
the females rarely do this and only goes off feed when its close to egg laying. if your females is not eating, try to give them smaller meals. i have a female tarahumaran mt kingsnake that used to gorge on rat pups before brumation but after she came out she only likes to feed on mouse pinkies. it makes sense since smaller meals are easier to digest and a snake can get nutrition faster if they eat small meals frequently plus the eggs take up some space too. so this may change their appetite a bit. hope it helped.
