The general consensus in the herp community is that "williamsi" is a naturally occurring intergrade between the gray rats of the Florida panhandle and the yellows that occur further south. I have four that I collected last year in Levy County. One is an adult, the rest were juveniles most likely hatched in '98. They are each colored somewhat differently, but all have the longitudinal stripes connecting the blothches. One of them is darker and has bolder striping than the rest. I will probably breed them sometime in the future, as they have subtle shades of pink and yellow mixed in their coloration. They all have black tongues and light grey eyes. They do have unusually calm dispositions, and never have attempted to bite even when first caught. Rather unusual as far as obsoleta go. I'd love to see the youngsters grow to seven feet+, and they probably will, as they are mouse disposal units for sure.......T Dance
