ok.. my wife and i rescued a snake yesterday from some dogs.. a field near our house was cleared of brush/etc.. and anyways we found what appears to be a rat snake.. we posted in the 'what kind' forum and everyone agrees... but i still have some questions that hopefully you guys can help with..

you can see the image of the snake below as well as a url to more pics.. 56k beware.. the thumbnails are there but the images are hi-res pics..

one question is on their behavior.. yesterday it was docile.. although i didnt pick it up i just let it move into a bucket and i put it in an aquirium we dont use anymore.. today when i got a container to put some water in.. i was putting the water down inside the aquarium and it curled up as if it was about to strike.. also it was shaking its tail similar to a rattler.. now is this normal behavior if its cornered? i have seen rattlesnakes before and i dont think this is one.. just want to be 100% sure before we go any further with this snake. I dont want to release it back into the wild around here because there are a lot of children and dogs/cats around here. We were thinking of keeping it.. i got some frozen pinky mice today from reptile store.. guy told me if i wanted i could bring it to him but its so far out of the way i rather not..

any and all information is greatly appreciated..
