Unfortunately, few hobbyists can afford $800 for a pair of snakes. New folks to the hobby think they can save lots of money by buying cheaply, and, with work, get the w/c Asians to acclimate. That rarely happens with most of them, as some of us know through the school of experience and hard knocks. Wish people wouldn't buy imported snakes for this reason, but it will probably continue as long as prices are high.
Also, Mandarins don't lay a lot of eggs, and it's not easy to get more than a couple pair from a breeder. The market is not exactly being flooded with CB. Probably when more people are breeding them, the prices will go down more.
