: I don't understand why so many people want freaks. I view albinos as animals possesing inferior genes. In most areas they wouldn't last long in the wild. With most species in decline due to habitat loss it seems a shame that we waste cage space on freaks. For me an albino would make good cobra food but that's about it. It is also a shame that when an animal that is rare or has a very restricted range throws an albino nearly the whole field of herpetoculturalists working with that species drops projects producing normals and gears up to produce the inferior freaks. The Ruthven's kingsnake is a perfect example. Its almost a challenge to find normals. There are many other examples: Florida Pine Snakes, Brooks kingsnakes, Everglades ratsnakes and so on. In Europe where the San Francisco Garter Snake can be kept legally imagine the absurdity of breeders there halting production of this nearly extinct subspecies to produce only albinos. To me it is just as absurd when it is done with a Black ratsnake.
