I'm sure I'm going to get a rash of junk for expressing how I feel on this but it's starting to get under my skin a little so here it goes.

I was recently trying to find a nice pair of very normal ball pythons, looking at my price list you can see I don't really work with boids and I'm telling you that just so you understand I only wanted them as pets and not for profit or breeding reasons. The funny thing here is that it took me close to a month to find them. I found black back, striped, ghost, albino, pied and about 5 different phases not to mention the plethora of hets for sale. Finally I contacted Bob Clark and ended up getting my seemingly easy order filled by him. My conclusion to this whole ordeal was that the hardest ball python morph to find is the normal?

Now lets look at rosy boas, these snakes as great as they are seem to be fading in popularity although I've seen albinos for $1500 plus dollars. Give me a break, are people trying to have fun in this hobby or get rich? Most of the morphs I've seen pale in comparison to the normal phase and some are down right ugly. I'm sure most of you at some point in the past walked right by those anery boas and passed it off as an ugly boa. I think people are starting to lose site of the reasons we all do this. I keep and breed native snakes that I legally cannot sell and I end up just giving them away. I do that because it's still fun for me and it brings people into the hobby.

I guess what I'm getting at here is either I just have an old school train of thought or people are getting greedy in this business/hobby. I mean very, very few people were working with E. radiata before the albinos came out and then boom you have a $1000+ plus snake that lost it's appeal inside of two years.

I guess I'm just not into selling people $45 pythons and then charging them another $2000 in color. Maybe this is the reason I'll always be a poor man who loves snakes.

I'm sure a lot of you think what I'm saying is crazy and you may even point out that I have a few color morphs on my page. Truth be told I'm selling off most of them with the exception of my guttata for one main reason. My issue is related to the price of the morphs and not the morphs themselves.

I would love to hear what the rest of you think and that's why I made this post. I see breeders like KJ, John Ginter, B.H.B and a lot of others that work with the snakes they love regardless of there price and it's people like you I would like to hear more from. I would also love to hear a little criticism, I'm very opinionated and sometimes I can use somebody telling my I'm too thick headed if that's the case.

Hope I didn't offend any of you,
Adam Block
