I don't think that rodent mites can be interested in snakes.
Instead it is very probable that these mites are not
the most typical species (Ophionyssus natricis), but
they are another type (unfortunately there are a lot !
But now I don't remember their scientific names).

For safety I would use Vapona strips: I used it on
Asian and European Elaphe, and I never had problems.
