Dean, there are many reasons for this I have seen this in kingsnakes and it is called "zonata disease". It is progressive from the tail up mostly, causes paralysis and is fatal most times. Now i am pretty sure it is not limited to just kings, and there is some controversy as to its being contagious. Keep an eye on your other colubrids and maybe isolate them for a short spell, may be nothing but better safe than sorry. could have been an anurysm or stroke to. sorry about your animal.
