Thanks dg for defending my status as not being a "pseudo herpetologist". I know I'm not a professional...I don't think any of us are...but I've been into herpetology for a long time and am very thankful the rest of the herpers on this forum allow me to have an opinion. If some of us have more experience or status and I'm sure they do, then I'm also sure they'll understand when others offer their opinion and are just trying to help. When the original post went up I also thought the snake could be a racer. No doubt this is intriguing since there is no definate answer. But true scientists don't just go by their first impressions, right?? I mean if there are any clues, we pursue all the possibilities, correct? That's all I am suggesting is that we look at all the possibilities. We probably won't know for sure what the snake is until one of us, "pseudo" or not, has the snake in hand, and can look at it from every angle and can count scales, etc. It could be a new variant to science for all we know. Let's not close any possibilities. But also let's not discount each other's abilities either. I respect everybody on this forum, no matter what level of experience they have, and I certainly mean no harm to anyone here. This is the most powerful means of communication I have seen in my whole life. All I want to do is talk herps here, and my favorite herps of all are ratsnakes. So, let's lighten up guys and gals, and enjoy each others company, ok?? Thanks much, TC.
