I think I used 'imagine' in my other post because I am trying to compare how a European in Europe would be towards snakes to the Europeans in the U.S that i have seen. The Europeans in the U.S who have snake collections are real picky and patient. Their Mandarins, diones, etc come from very specific locations throughout Asia. They don't seem to be in a rush just to get one. At least the hobbyists that I know aren't. They keep their snakes in terrarium type caging which matches the species that's in it. They wait on locale, color, pattern for several years getting a lone male or female one year and then waiting for a mate. The Mandarinas that I've seen pictured that are in the US, but a European has it in his/her collection, look nicer than some of the ones we generally grab up. Go take a look at Rick Cunnigham's web site, he sponsors this forum. Take a look at the Mandarina he got this past year from Rex. Now, that's a Mandarina. I'm not trying to suggest everyone else's mandarina are bad looking. All mandarina that I've seen and pictured are great looking snakes, but there are some that are nicer than others in my opinion. I don't have any Mandarina, but I like them, and Terry Cox posted that overall the best looking old world rat snake is the Mandarina. He posted that in response to my posting that situla was the best looking old world rat snake. I don't have either in my collection for some reason. Someday that certain situla or pair will pop up available that I have to have. Then, I'll have them to work with. Anyway, I haven't ever doubted the baird's purity. I was just trying to give out some of my opinions and views regarding the doubting as Paul had asked. In the last month I have accomplished confusing Shannon Hiatt with you and now rainmaker. Doesn't help the credability of my views or opinions. LOL Not only that, I was calling your place and leaving messages thinking I was calling someone else that I had sold a corn snake to last year. HaHa

:One thing that comes to mind of the top of my head is that if you stop and think about it the other way around(i.e.us here and getting asian rats etc.)we don't always get locales on them?
:Lets say that way back when(mid 80s)some people in europe heard there was some bairdi comeing in,well they new they were from the u.s so west texas(or even somewhat east)was the only place they could have come from.
:You mentioned locales on bulls etc...Those snakes stretch across how many states?
:I guess what I am trying to say is when you are half a world away it doesn't matter what mile marker they are from as long as they are pure.
:Us people(I am one of the worst)here in the u.s are very picky with OUR own locales?I would never breed a 277 bairdi to a davis mts bairdi yet I have a pair of mandarin rats and I have not a clue were they are from???????
:Does this all make since?
:Another good point is nobody would have cared of the locale until there was a albino produced?
:Ive seen it many times,in the early stages of a rare(think of how rare bairdi must have been back then to the europeians)type of snake nobody will ask any questions cause they are just glad to be able to get there hands on them.
:Once they are very well established then it becomes important as to there orgin?I now see locales on mandarins were 8 years ago it didn't matter?
:Anyways,I am rambling now and I must be gone.
