I've kept ridleyi for four years now, and can confirm that they don't have the most complacent dispositions! Hatchlings are defensive little buggers -- prepare to be bitten, or at the very least struck at. At least hatchlings are small and subsequently have small teeth! And they musk. Phew! My adults have not been handled much at all, but are still considerably calmer than hatchlings, although I would hesitate to call them "calm." "Slightly nervous" is a good way to describe them. I am cautious when handling my adults and don't make any sudden movements when I have them out of their enclosures. Hatchlings are often shy feeders but adults are quite voracious. The only time I've been bitten by an adult was when I was preparing to feed and got a little careless. My adults don't strike defensively, so I would expect that with more frequently handling, they might be less wary.
That being said, the beauty of a ridleyi far exceeds any negative attributes in my opinion, and they are favorites in my collection. Probably not a good pet for kids or someone who wants to carry their snake around and show it off, but a stunning display animal who will tolerate occasional gentle handling.
