What characteristics determine a White Oak phase grey rat?

I ask about the characteristics because I have a very light grey rat similar to the one with the grey saddles you posted. He was purchased as a normal grey rat, but is much lighter than pictures of other normal grey rats that I've seen. He has a very pale grey background with medium grey saddles with the saddle centers lighter than the edges (like the one you posted). If I can ever lay hands on a digital camera, I'll post a picture. I know you can't guess as to whether mine is a White Oak phase or not without a pic, but I'm just curious as to what determines normal vs White Oak.
