::How are they doing for you? Any special conditions you're keeping them under this winter..you'd like to share. Thanks, TC.
:They are honestly not the easiest animals to keep. Thusfar both have to be tease-fed. That is, a pinkie left over night in the cage just remains there, but if the snakes are harassed with it, they begin nipping and eventually take it down. As alluded to in a previous post, I am leaving for Papua New Guinea on Feb 4th and will be gone until mid-April. I have hired someone trusted (who I have used before) to take care of my collection, but I think I will put the moellendorfi down into brumation before leaving so he doesn't have to deal with them. And I've heard that's a good idea anyway and they will feed better in the Spring when taken out. I'm hoping that's correct.
I agree with that. My neonates were difficult the first winter. They aren't like other colubrids that you can keep feeding all winter, imo (unless there's a food item we don't know about). ASAMOF, I believe they ate very little before being cooled. Moells seem to want to brumate the winter away even from babies. I had good success with them after they came out of brumation. They usually started eating better in April for me. Now I just keep them going as long as I can, December usually, then cool them until the end of March or early April. Thanks for posting the info and good luck with them. They're great snakes and worth waiting for.
PS: Mine are at 55*F. right now, if that helps. When I cooled the babies I kept them at 60*F, however. I think they can stand cooler though :) TC.
