Hey Terry. I don't think the population of climacophora at Iwakuni are leucistic. I have always heard and read that "Shirohebi" are tyrosinase negative amelanistics. Schulz (1996) confuses the matter since he refers to the Iwakuni animals as leucistic in one part of the species description and as "albinistic" (which could mean leucistic or amelanistic) in another. But his photos of an Iwakuni adult and juvenile in the photo section clearly show snakes with yellow blotches and red eyes. In fact, the photo of the adult in Schulz is indistinguishable from the amel climacophora photo posted by "thomas1" down a bit in this forum, and the juvenile looks like my guy above. I would LOVE to see (ok - own :-) a leucistic climacophora but to date I've only seen amelanistics.
