I can understand that argument for a $20 hatchling (even if I disagree with it), but how can you say that a snake that you've put 2+ years of growth/food/time into isn't more expensive than a vet visit even if the origfinal cost was only $20. Basically, the original purchase price is the LEAST amount of moiney put into most pet snakes.
However, many breeders can do just as much or more than most vets (since they don't specialize in reptiles), so don't descredit the serious, large breeders who treat snakes themselves. Personally, I have the advantage of treating them myself while still being under vet care....lol.
