In Reply to: Where can you find the brightest yellow ratsnakes?... posted by john albrecht on November 25, 2002 at 15:41:58:
I don't have any information to share as far as where the brightest come from. However, the last few springs I managed to collect a few cornsnakes in North Carolina, with varying amounts of bright coloring. Only 1 female was worth writing home about. 1 mediocre female was already gravid when caught. I kept 1 female from the clutch and raised her up. She is only a year and 3 months old, but she is almost as big as her mother was, and much cleaner and much brighter in color than both parents. In fact she is also brighter in color than a WC hatchling I caught in the same county. I've heard similar stories from others who have bred WC corns. I'd be curious if you could get similar results with other snakes including yellow rats. I know you could with anything through sellective breeding, but it would be interesting to see if with yellows you could get exceptional F1 offspring from average or less than average looking parents.
