I dont know about the farther north the bigger they are, but I am from SouthEast Missouri and I can tell you we have some pretty big black rat snakes there. I have seen quite a few well over 6', and maybe close to the 7 or 8' range. The biggest one I have seen out in the wild here in KY so far was probably close to 6' or 6.5', and that was here on Ft Knox. I have a W/C that is 16 months old, (caught right after hacthing, had his first shed a couple days after he was caught), and he was 38" when I measured him in September. So Im hoping he will be a pretty big snake. I will measure him again tonight and see what his length is now.

:This goes way back to the 70's for me. I've heard the further north you go the larger the obsoleta get. I've heard of 9 feet "being common". Has anyone ever seen a 9 footer? If so, in what state? Has anyone ever bought a baby and raised it to such a size?
:Thanks,
:me
