Yes, the size of their heads are alot different than other rat snakes. I don't think you will have any problem switching the f/t mice, I had no problem with my trans-pecos rats in this area. It really depends on how often you want to feed the snake. The one adult that I had ate a large mouse once a week, he would not take more than one, but I think he could have handled it if he wanted. How did your younger snakes die? I am just curious, since I have a 2 month old one right now who I thought I was going to loose, but he pulled through and is doing great. They guy I bought him from used sand as a substrate and did not tell me that. The snake acted very strange the first week I had him. He would lie on his back and was very upset at the site of me. I took him off newspaper and put him on some bark, then covered his cage around the side with a blanket so he could not see out and this worked, he is not a very laidback and nice snake.
