Incidentially, the nicest splendida I've found to date was a sock-head in the Xmas mountains. I've never seen them or heard of them coming off the river road, that's interesting. From what I understand, this snake was collected between the north hill and wildhorse pass. I was in Ft. Davis/Alpine last weekend, but didn't have time to visit the spot for myself...
