That is not correct. You may collect them if you purchase a licence. I collected 3 this year. I live in CA so I had to purchase a "non-resident special non-game hunting license". The cost for a five day license was about $35, this is license #57 I believe. I puchased two in June for a nine day trip. In Sept. I decided to go back, that time I purchased a year long which is good until Aug. 31 of next year, since I plan to go again in June next year. The cost of the year long was about $110.
Where you are getting that $63 dollar figure is that there is a fine of I beieve up to 3 times the value of the snake if you collect without a license and TX declares the value of subocs to be $63. The license allow you to collect 10 of any allowed species or up to 25 combined total of all allowed species, beyond that you need a different commercial collecter or dealers license. You also need a commercial type license if you plan on selling any no matter what numbers you collect.
