The best recomendation I can give you is this...
Ratsnakes are much more adaptible to their surroundings than rattlesnakes. Take him to an area where there is plenty of water,(swamp, lake, pond, or canal) where there is no building going on, and turn him loose. He will do just fine.
As long as he has a place he can hunt at night for frogs, fish, and small mammals, without being hasseled by people, he will be one happy snake. Best of luck to you!
