although most of them are listed as species of special concern (S), which means -
S: Special Concern. A taxon that should be monitored because (a) it exists in a limited geographic area, (b) it may become threatened or endangered due to modification or destruction of habitat, (c) certain characteristics or requirements make it especially vulnerable to specific pressures, (d) experienced researchers have identified other factors that may jeopardize it, or (e) it is thought to be rare or declining but insufficient information exists for assignment to the threatened or endangered status categories.

Typically species of special concern have no current legal protection (other than as non-game species) but are under consideration for T or E status.

BTW - there are 6 threatened or endangered taxa. I don't know exactly what protection that affords them, but it seems likely that they can't be collected/disturbed.

Taxa Listed as Threatened -
Clonophis kirtlandii - Kirtland's snake
Pituophis melanoleucus melanoleucus - Northern pine snake
Sistrurus miliarius streckeri - Western pigmy rattlesnake
Thamnophis proximus proximus - Western ribbon snake

Species listed as Endangered Species
Nerodia cyclopion - Mississippi green water snake
Nerodia fasciata confluens - Broad-banded water snake

Species of Special Concern
Elaphe guttata guttata - Corn snake
Farancia abacura reinwardtii - Western mud snake
Lampropeltis triangulum elapsoides - Scarlet Kingsnake
Nerodia erythrogaster neglecta - Copperbelly water snake
Thamnophis sauritus sauritus - Eastern ribbon snake

Is the state really giving out different information from different branches within the wildlife management departments?
