:Sorry we didn't really get a chance to talk, Dwight, but it was nice meeting you in Daytona. Did you go hunting on the way home?
Ditto Gerry, hopefully you, Sean, and I can get together this spring and do some herping in ANF. I love that place!
After the show on Sunday, I sped up to ANF and got there around 930 or 10 pm. On the way I found a freshly hit rough green on 27 just before you get to Perry, and then a DOR corn snake on 98 just outside of Wakulla. Once I was in ANF, didn't see a single live snake on the roads. Cruised until around 2 am, the total tally was 2 DOR racers. However, the roadside tire ruts were alive with amphibian activity.. there were oak toads, cricket frogs, squirrel tree frogs, and pine barrens tree frogs all in amplexus. Boy those things can make some noise! I got out of the truck to get some photos and as I was searching the standing rainwater for chorusing frogs, an adult banded water snake swam up to my light. It was the only live snake I saw that night. The next morning I saw a 4' racer cruising in the grass along the scenic byway in ANF, and about 10 million frog eggs in the ditches. That was it. Oh well, that's how it goes sometimes!
Take care,
dg
