Don't have any experience with the Texas Rats but I have three black rats (all '01's); 2 amels and a het...My amels are nervous when first held but settle down, and the het is mellow....except right after eating and then its like she's a different snake lol...strikes at anything that moves in her line of sight...there is a number of different black rat morphs out there (brindles, lavs, amels, white sides, patternless amels) and they can get pretty big, like 6' plus...personally, I love mine...was going to sell them (a couple different times) to make room for something different but I guess I like them much more than I'd ever want to sell them...peace
