I have a few large rubbermaid tubs in my car ready to collect the ones we find this week. They are putting decon out for the mice, which wont work in such a large barn. All I can do is collect what I can and release them in my yard where they are welcome. If I find the rat snake Ill put it around my shed, maybe I have some mice he can chomp on. And Ill still get to see him, just not handle. As far as getting him to stop killing the snakes, I have no influence there, since they are set in their ways- although if this counts, he did page me last weekend to come try to help take care of them.

: : My boss is having a fit with all his snakes around his house. We are currently tearing down part of a barn, and his wife says they have a huge black snake out by it. It's at least 1.5 inces wide and must be long as hell, since when it moves through greenery you actually see the greenery move. It is at least two feet long, sound like a black rat snake or a racer? The barn is infested with mice. They are killing as many snakes as possible, so if it is a rat snake I want to save it and perhaps keep it or release it somewhere else. Are there any online care sheets for black rats? Thanks in advance.

: First, how can you stand by and watch your boss kill snakes? Tell him to stop the senseless killing. He's acting irrational! What's he afraid of? Explain the benificial role snakes play in controlling rodent populations and he's only allowing for more rodents to multiply. Just throw them all in a pillow case and relocate them down the road. Wild caught black rats don't make good captives. They typically pace the cage and rub their noses raw and refuse food. -Dan
