What Kind of Rat Snake is this?

Hi! I live outside San Antonio, Tx. I found what I believe to be a rat snake in my back yard. He's about 4 foot long and is mostly black with kind of a checkard patern on his back. He has orange around the markings on him. He doesn't really look like the normal "Texas Rats" you see around here. What could he be?
