On the other hand... not particularly reputable stores are precisely the ones I'd expect to have hybrids. Hybrids aren't all that rare or hard to produce, so I wouldn't assume that this isn't one... the hybrids of corn and black rat snakes that I've seen looked pretty similar to Texas rats, too...
