I've kept both and am still keeping the anomalas. I'm not as knowledgeable as some guys here in terms of the science of classification and the biological similarities but here are my observations...
While slimmer and often longer than the schrenki schrenki, the anomalas are still very similar - and the yellow colouration on my anomalas matches that of good schrenki specimens. In fact the markings are very similar apart from colour. I have also read of supposed intergrades - though not sure if this is mainly by people justifying breeding the two together in captivity...
Temperament and behaviour wise they are very different - anomalas tend to be nocturnal and much shyer. But as you said the two usbspecies are no more different than obsoleta subspecies, or as they are Asian, taeniura species where the differences in some are wildly different.
They're still Elaphe Schrenki Anomala for me...
