They seem to have many names. They are called Black Copper Rat Snakes in the TFH book on ratsnakes by Staszko and WAlls. I have been working with them for many years. They are cool snakes but aare much more racer-like. My web site below has more pictures.

: A friend of mine just picked up a rat snake that he says is an Elaphe Flavolieata. I can't seem to locate any information about this particular elaphe and was hoping some of you might know more about it. What is it's common name? He described what it looked like but it didn't sound like anything I have ever seen. I won't be able to see it for a couple of weeks when I go visit him.
