Black Ratsnakes @ room temp?

I would like to hear from anyone who has TRIED to keep black ratsnakes at room temp with no warm/cool spots. I know what the books and many experts will tell me, but I have heard enough about the liklihood of them doing well at room temp that I want to know if you felt it went well, or was it a failure. Right now my snakes are fine, but I don't want to set them up for long-term problems. Thanks. Duffy
