: : Adam,
: : Just curious, what is the difference between a T+ albino and a hypomelanistic "lavender"? Phenotypically they are almost identical, is there a way to tell one from the other?
: : Thanks for any info,

: The difference between t+ and t- can usually be discerned phenotypically inthat one retains more of te reddish blotches, while they fade dramatically on the other. When bred to each other they produce normals. Lavenders are something else. most likely hypomelanistic.
Adam,
In my experience breeding a T+ to a T- will usually produce a mix of each albino color phase. It's kind of like breeding two albino corns together and getting "snows", its almost commonplace in herpetoculture today. Although it is true that the original breeding of T+ to T- done by Dr Bechtel did produce all normals, I would be surprised to hear that normals are produced from this pairing today. Most T- and T+ albinos also carry the "other" gene. It is my opinion that the "lavenders" are a form of T+ albinism, but at the current time I have not completed the breeding trials necessary to establish this as fact.
Stay tuned,
dg
