I've had mine since 1988. They are one of my favorite Asians. I've bred mine several times, but in N. Michigan have no trouble hibernating my herps. They mate under the cover of darkness and are hard to observe, but once gravid are easy to manage. One female had 18 viable eggs.
I like the color/pattern of most Russians and love the babies. One thing I don't like a lot is the fact that they get pretty large, up to about 5 ft. One of my favorite things is that they are so open. They have personality plus!
BTW, I think the Koreans, E. s. anomala, are going to be reclassified into their own species. So, E. schrencki will be reserved for just the "Amur" ratsnake, usually the Russian form, but also from N. Korea and N. China.
Just have to mention too, that there are a couple other Asians that have personalities similar to the Russians. My other favorite is the South Korean Dione's ratsnake. Enjoy the Russians!
