Personally I don't know exactly what Kevin (I think
it was Kevin McCurley who coined the phrase) had
in mind when he gave them the name. In fact, I
think it's probably just because it sounds cool.
Although reticulated pythons are not strictly arboreal
and I imagine that they are less so the older they
get, they have been known to feed on bats in the
trees. And since many of them come from indonesia,
and Borneo is an Island in that chain, the name
might make as much sense as a nickname for retics
alone, much less a burm x retic. As far as I know,
burms are not usually arboreal, and adults almost
never, and they do not hail from Borneo or eat bats
(a lot of this is speculation, if anyone has evidence
to the contrary, it is welcome), it seems less
a cross of traits as just an interesting name.
