It is aquarium gravel. Half of it is the really pollished round gravel and the other half is the rougher/chiplike gravel. I don't think this caused it though, because it doesn't swim much and I have never seen it go completely under water. I will change the gravel if it would be better for the little guy. Please forgive me for not knowing much about them. I am more of a fish person and the newt was dumped on me recently. I am still trying to learn about them. What would the ideal set-up for it be?
