some leos are just sloppy eaters. I had one of mine crap sand for 2 months after taking him off it. He always had dusted crix and a dish that I've seen him lick out of but still he mysteriously ate sand.
He scooped some up with every cricket he caught. Sort of undershot every one and took a scoop. I also saw him licking the sand from time to time.
Now a friend of mine has had his 5 year old leo on sand since he got it at a very young age. She's as healthy as can be.
Sand is and isn't dangerous to all leos.
it just depends on the lizard. Some seem to thrive on it, others don't.
