The first line is killer accurate...forgive me if i appear cruel for saying this but I'll be selfish & have a good belly laff...(those of us who have sampled too many fine european/mexican/cacadian...anything but...us... beers....need to excercise our excess occasionally!!!)...but back on topic...the guardians will seek out the h20bowl regardless of where you put it.....they will soak in it....& defecate in it! Many other colubrids & boids & monitors....& on & on....do this behavior. So the idea of moving the bowl to avoid this... elicits a chuckle :)
Get used to changing the h20 often & cleaning the emtied tub w/ a cleaning solution, well rinsed, occasionally. Here in the SW, dry air/high temps...soaking & the pooping therein is a reality of herpetoculture. I remember when in S. Cal. more pooping in their dadgummed hide boxes....even more problematic...
::I hardly qualify as an expert, but after keeping snakes for several years, I have one suggestion for you. In the picture you've got the water bowl right up on the glass. Looks like it anyway. I recommend putting it in the center of the cage, or at least away from the glass. I have an indigo, a gopher snake, and a Baird's ratsnake, and about 90% of the time they poop along the edge of their cage (while doing routine perimeter patrols). It will be less maintenance for you (sterilizing the water bowl) if you move the bowl away from the side, out of the preferred poop zone. :-) Other than that, nice setup. I like that lid; where did you get it?

:The whole thing is a custome job from the lid to the cabnet it sits on. I got from a buddy at work who did not want it anymore. His dad made it for him when he was a kid to keep some reptiles in and has since lose intrest. I do need to get a lock for the trap door in the lid before Rio finds out that it does not have one. I can try and get some more pics of it at differnt angles if you or anyone is intrested on how it was made. Thaks for the heads up on the water bowl. I plan on getting a bigger ceramic one and I will keep it away from the sides.
