I have 1 large adult male & a pair of yearlings, there's not 1 inch of mean bone in them. They are good eaters, easy to maintain & as for the mess, my Russian ratsnakes are messier, the Indigos are just a little watery, the Russian rats cage looks like you kept a Canada Goose in there when it comes to color & smell.
A lot of guys say how messy Drymarchon can be I guess if you compare it to that of a Rosy Boa it IS a mess, but I keep all Colubrids. For years I had black rats, blk. Mexican Kings & whatnot to appease the black snake fetish but there's no replacement for the real thing, I'm sure most in this forum would agree.
Mine have super temperaments except when their hungry & get lost in the moment. I've actually fallen asleep with my adult male on my chest & woke up an hour later & he was still there. They actually seem to 'like' being with you.
Good luck in your search.

: How are Eastern Indigos as pets? What is their tempermant, are they agressive, very calm and slow moving, or what? When handled they aren't like pythons and boas where they wrap around you are they? Are they for the most part nice or can they be real pissed off snakes like some big bull snakes I have seen? I think these are awesome animals, but I don't think I can afford one from what I have heard. Maybe I will go for something like a black pine snake or a black milksnake, would that be similar snake?
