Easterns are the mellowest of snakes, even wild ones don't bite, they can get excited at feeding time so tongs are needed then. They are amazingly alert snakes, and will watch your every move. When I have mine rapped around my neck they can hold on very tight for a non-constrictor, mine are active when I first take them out, but then settle down & let me hold them. They are expensive (like many good things) but there is no other snake quite like them. You might like to try a Blacktailed Cribo, they are much cheeper and mine have a temperament like my Easterns
